Foi na véspera de Natal de 1914, em Ypres, na Bélgica. À noite, nas linhas inglesas, alguém começou a cantar o Adeste Fidelis, o lado alemão fez coro. Um inglês gritou que ia sair da trincheira desarmado, um alemão fez o mesmo. Outros seguiram-nos. Trocaram presentes. Jogaram futebol. A trégua informal terá abrangido 100 mil soldados inimigos. Aconteceu.
